OH NO! A 10 Second Intro???

At a recent networking event, I was introduced to a pretty sharp concept – the 10-second intro.

The scenario is that there are 50 people in a room and you have only 10 seconds to connect with any one of them because…

a.) there was a long-winded speaker previously, and the time limit is approaching.
b.) everyone there is also trying to quickly identify potentially valuable prospects and/or resources.
c.) you’ll run out of gas or completely bore yourself repeating a long litany.
d.) you want to get them talking about themselves as quickly as possible.
e.) more often than not–all of the above.

So you need to get the attention of your ideal clients and potential partners really fast. It’s your job to give them the quick “a-hah” moment they’re looking for–even if they haven’t been consciously looking for it.

To do this, you use the 10 second intro as explained by Aviva Meyrowitz of http://lcacting.com/

  • Start with your name and company name.
  • Then your tag line, which tells who you work with or who your message is for;
  • Then give a short benefit of your business that intrigues or inspires them to approach you later.

Aviva’s intro goes like this:

Hi! I’m Aviva Meyrowitz.
My company is Lights! Camera! Acting!
Where there is Theater Fun for Everyone.
We teach life skills through acting.

23 words. In just about 10 seconds you know who she is and what she does.

So mine is:

Hello, I’m Cindy Carothers from MakeYourMarketingPayOff.com.
For people who hate to do marketing, we make it fun
…so it gets done!
